Anniversary Details

On our actual anniversary, we exchanged gifts (he opening his when he woke up and I opened mine when I woke up, so neither saw the other open their gifts.) We try to do the traditional anniversary gifts for each year, but this year was hard: copper or wool. I gave Chad orange tulips, reeces pieces, and 7 pennies to buy a MoTab cd from me. He gave me a copper necklace from Australia and some very nice chocolates. He came home briefly for lunch and to get his old glasses because the lens popped out of his current pair. And then we didn't see him until 8pm, when we put Sakura to bed and forced ourselves to stay awake until 9pm, when we finally gave up and crashed after a very long and full day. Not too exciting, but you do what you can.

On Saturday, we all slept in til 9:30!!! When we finally got going, we went downtown to a jewelry exhibition. It was just a small display of a woman's jewelry - she wasn't there giving demos or anything, and there wasn't a lot of selection of copper, so we were a bit disappointed. She was supposed to work with various metals including copper, so we thought it would be cool to watch her make something from copper and then buy it. Oh well. That afternoon we had a babysitter come over and watch Sakura while we went and saw "The Blind Side." I know a movie isn't an exciting or different date for an anniversary, but it was our surprise hit activity after the jewelry thing didn't pan out. It was a good movie and great for discussion afterwards over dinner. We went to Circa 1922, a tappas restaurant downtown. We've done tappas before and loved it, so we were really looking forward to this. It wasn't as good as we hoped. There was less emphasis on tappas and more on regular dining. Some of the food was great, and some was not so great. The surprise winning dish of the night: escargot. The surprise disappointment: white chocolate mousse. Oh, but I forgot about our pre-movie snacks! We stopped at La Gemma fine Italian pastries, which is a little shop across the road we always mean to try but never do. We finally stopped in, and not only was it inexpensive, but it was goooood! The guy working there also gave us one little chocolate thing for free since we'd never been, and man was that a good call! It was EXCELLENT! That one piece alone will be bringing us back into their store.

And that's everything. Not the least exciting anniversary (like the year Chad had the flu) nor the most exciting (like cave-tubing in Belize or Les Mis on broadway in NY) but pretty good considering our circumstances. One of these days, when we have the money, we're going to the Super Bowl for our anniversary! But it doesn't really matter what we do anyway, just that we celebrate in some way the wonderful years we've shared together.

wow. I'd say it was eventful and that you should share more places to go try
