Seth Vidinha Burton, born 12:47am on 5/21/2010.
Now on to the meaning... It has been a rollercoaster-month with one
wedding, one funeral, and the birth of our son. I was fortunate
enough to attend my Grandma's funeral ~ 1 week ago in Idaho and
Wyoming. She lost her battle to cancer, leaving her husband, McKay
Call Burton, of 60 years. They have a remarkable marriage, one that
exemplifies enduring love, friendship and kindness, the type of
marriage each of us tries to emulate.
Natalie, with her astute and motherly foresight, told me weeks ago the
date she thought she'd have the baby: May 21st. This is also my
Grandpa Burton's birthday. She's been dreaming all week about going
into labor. And sure enough, our son was born early in the AM on May
21st. I guessed May 26th. We looked at him, watched him for an hour or so, and
both concluded simultaneously that he was not Liam (our first chosen
name for him). He didn't look or act like a Liam, don't ask me why.
Our second favorite name was Seth.
Seth is derived from Hebrew origin and it means, "the appointed one."
Seth was the third child of Adam and Eve, as he was appointed to come
in the place of Abel, who was slain by Cain. He took the place of his
brother who died, and helped soften the grief of his parents. Though
the circumstances surrounding our son's birth are drastically
different from that of Seth, one similarity remains. Our dear Grandma,
Rene Walker Burton, died on Mother's day,
May 9, 2010. And though the birth of our son (on Grandpa's birthday)
does not quench the heartache he must feel for his beloved wife, it is
still a "tender mercy" from the Lord, in the form of 8 lbs and 7
ounces of joy. I believe he was "appointed" to be here at this time on
earth. I know with all my heart that we will see Grandma again,
glorified and perfected. We will all walk that road of death by and
by, and it is from our Saviour, Jesus Christ, and His power over death,
that we will all be resurrected one day.
So we want to honor both Grandma and Grandpa Burton with this name.
We love you dearly. In tradition with both families, the first born
son's middle name is the mother's maiden name. Vidinha is of
Portuguese origin.
-Chad
p.s. the "tender mercies" in quotations refers to a talk by David A Bednar,

One of the other tender mercies we experienced last week was at the conclusion
of Grandma Burton's funeral. We arrived at the burial site in Afton, Wyoming,
and much to our surprise, it was snowing with a mix of rain. It was uncomfortable
to say the least, and most everyone who could fit hovered together under the tent,
while the outliers had their umbrellas. Grandpa Burton asked that this last phase of
the funeral proceed quickly as the weather was not permitting. Soon after the
dedicatory prayer over the grave, the clouds dispersed, the sun came out, and
the atmosphere changed from discomfort to serenity. The conclusion of her funeral
was not hasty, as it might have been. Grandpa let me know that several prayers
were made that the weather would let up, and so it did. Heavenly Father did not
undo the departure of Grandma from this life, but his tender mercies allowed this
final goodbye to proceed in a manner that allowed Grandpa and all the rest of us
to give our respects to Grandma properly.

What a sweet post about your son, his name, and our family. We do have an amazing family (parents, grandparents, siblings, our children, etc.). We are all so blessed. I'm so glad we got to spend time with you while you were here for Grandma's funeral; I just wish we all lived a little closer so we could have more time with each other.
